4、Tiger on the brink :Jiang Zemin and China's new elite 1998

摘要:Tiger on the Brink is the first full-length study of the rise to power of Jiang Zemin - now the central figure in China's new "third generation" leadership - from his beginnings as the adopted son of a revolutionary martyr and his days as a student in the underground Communist movement in Shanghai to his sudden elevation as Deng Xiaoping's successor in the wake of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre and his confirmation as senior leader after Deng's death. Though many dismissed Jiang as an interim figurehead after Tiananmen, in fact he played a crucial role in bringing China back from the brink of social collapse. Gilley shows how Jiang shared both the concerns of the last of the Party elders, including their idealistic views of Chinese socialism, as well as the outlook of the younger generation of reformers who have helped China to achieve its astounding economic growth in recent years.

7、The man who changed China :the life and legacy of Jiang Zemin 2004

摘要:Jiang Zemin's life and leadership sweep through almost eighty tumultuous years of Chinese history: Japanese occupation, Civil War, Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution, Tiananmen Square, and, more recently, dramatic economic growth, tensions with Taiwan, and opportunities and confrontations with America. With unshakable if paternalistic vision, a lifelong love of Chinese civilization, and backroom political skills that no one had anticipated, Jiang Zemin became an unexpected agent of change, effecting the transition from a traumatized society to a confident, prosperous country rapidly ascending in the new world order.

11、Burying Mao :Chinese politics in the age of Deng Xiaoping 1994

摘要:For almost two decades after Mao Zedong's death, a contest was waged in China between orthodox Marxists and reformers. With Deng Xiaoping's strong support, the reformers ultimately won; but they--and China--paid a heavy price. Here, Richard Baum provides a guide to the intricate theater of post-Mao Chinese politics. He tells the story of an escalating intergenerational clash of ideas and values between the aging revolutionaries of the Maoist era and their younger, more pragmatic successors. --From publisher's description.

12、China after Deng Xiaoping :the power struggle in Beijing since Tiananmen 1995

摘要:This book gives bold and thought-provoking answers to the question "What will happen after Deng Xiaoping's death?" by analysing major political and economic trends in China since the June 4, 1989 crackdown. The intriguing career of patriarch Deng after the Tiananmen Square massacre - and his place in history - is assessed with the help of previously unpublished internal documents and hundreds of interviews with key players. The lively story-telling and incisive judgements are buttressed by generous quotations from the speeches and writings of the politicians who will shape China's future.

13、Deng Xiaoping :my father 1995

摘要:Since becoming China's ruler in 1978, Deng Xiaoping has molded the country according to his own vision, with tight Communist Party control over politics and a freewheeling atmosphere of experimentation and market-oriented policies in economics. Economically liberal but politically conservative, Deng Xiaoping is a contradictory figure. With Deng Xiaoping, My Father, Deng Maomao offers the first insider account of this enigmatic, post-revolutionary Chinese leader.

14、The Deng Xiaoping era :an inquiry into the fate of Chinese socialism, 1978-1994 1996

摘要:In the past decade, the world has become familiar with the image of Communist powers struggling in economic and political crisis. The crisis in China, whose economy is now the world's second largest and fastest growing, is perhaps the most serious of all, and Maurice Meisner's important new book shows how it stems from a deep spiritual and political dispute between capitalist realities and lingering socialist values and ideas. The Deng Xiaoping Era is Meisner's analysis of that crisis and of how Deng Xiaoping's promise of socialist democracy degenerated into bureaucratic capitalism. He shows the ways in which the Deng regime grossly violated the social contract between the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese people, and how capitalism emerged as the dynamic force in today's socioeconomic and cultural life. Now, Meisner argues, after more than a decade of capitalist reforms, the Chinese spiritual malaise is deepening with the brutal suppression of the 1989 Democracy Movement and its politically repressive aftermath. This indispensable study of contemporary Chinese politics - from the 1949 Revolution and the founding of the Maoist state to the establishment of Deng's regime and the social consequences of his reforms - is, as well, a formidable analysis of the failure of the world's greatest socialist experiment.

19、China , 1977-1980 2013

摘要:"This volume is the first publication in a new subseries of the Foreign Relations series that documents the most important foreign policy issues of the Jimmy Carter presidential administration. The documentation in this volume focuses primarily on the normalization of diplomatic relations between the United States and the People's Republic of China, as well as the concomitant ending of formal diplomatic relations between the United States and the Republic of China (Taiwan). This shift in formal recognition played out against a background of renewed fighting in Indochina, deterioration in U.S.-Soviet relations, and political and economic changes in China associated with Deng Xiaoping's consolidation of power. Over the course of the period documented, the United States and the People's Republic of China accelerated the development of economic, cultural, technological, and, following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, military relations"--Overview.
