Her English translations include *The World of Tiny Insects: A Memoir of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom* and *The Collected Works of Yan Zhitui*. She has contributed to *The Cambridge History of Chinese Literature* and *The Oxford Handbook of Modern Chinese Literature*, and co-edited and contributed to *The Oxford Handbook of Classical Chinese Literature (1000 BCE–900 CE)*. She has served as Director of the Harvard University Asia Center and has received the Harvard University Cabot Award, the Mendelson Award for Excellence in Mentoring from the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Munro Centenary Prize for Chinese Art and Humanities Research from the American Council of Learned Societies.
