Michael Berry holds a PhD in modern Chinese literature and film from Columbia University. He is currently a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and director of the Center for Chinese Studies. His authored works include *Speaking in Images: Interviews with Contemporary Chinese Filmmakers*, *Jia Zhangke's Hometown Trilogy*, *A Kaleidoscope of Time: Hou Hsiao-hsien's Cinematic Memory*, *A Painful History: Historical Trauma in Modern Chinese Literature and Film*, and *The Accent of Cinema: Jia Zhangke on Jia Zhangke*. His edited volumes include *Divided Lenses*, *Return to Modernity: Pai Hsien-yung, Modern Literature, and Modernism*, and *The Wushe Incident: A Reader in Taiwanese History and Culture*. His Chinese-to-English translations include *To Live* and *The Song of Everlasting Sorrow*. He has worked as a consultant and screenwriter for film production companies and served as a juror for the Dream of the Red Chamber Award (Hong Kong), the Golden Horse Film Festival (Taiwan), and Fresh Wave (Hong Kong).
白睿文(Michael Berry)哥伦比亚大学现中国代文学和电影的博士。现任加州大学洛杉矶分校(UCLA)教授兼中国研究中心主任。 著有《光影言语:当代华语片导演访谈录》《乡关何处:贾樟柯的故乡三部曲》《煮海时光:侯孝贤的光影记忆》《痛史:现代华语文学与电影的历史创伤》《电影的口音:贾樟柯谈贾樟柯》;编著有《Divided Lenses》《重返现代:白先勇、现代文学与现代主义》《雾社事件:台湾历史和文化读本》;中英译作包括《活着》《长恨歌》等书。曾为电影制片公司担任顾问和编剧、曾为红楼梦奖(香港)、金马影展(台湾)、鲜浪潮(香港)担任评委。
