Peter K. Bol is the Charles H. Carswell Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University. He also directs the development of large-scale databases such as the Chinese Historical Geographic Information System (CHGIS) and the Chinese Biographical Database (CBDB). His works include "This Culture of Ours: Intellectual Transitions in Tang and Sung China" (1992, Chinese translation: 《斯文：唐宋思想的转型》), and he co-edited "Emperor Huizong and Late Northern Song China: The Politics of Culture and the Culture of Politics" (2006) and "Confucianism and Ecology" (1998). Over the past decade, Bol's research has focused on the historical role of Neo-Confucianism and the exploration of social and cultural changes in China from a local historical perspective.
