About the author: Prasenjit Duara, Professor of East Asian Studies at Duke University and Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago, previously served as the Raffles Professor of Humanities and Director of the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore (2008–2015) and President of the Association for Asian Studies (2019–2020). He studied in India in his early years and later earned his Ph.D. in History from Harvard University under the guidance of the renowned sinologist Philip A. Kuhn. His works include *Culture, Power, and the State*, *Rescuing History from the Nation*, and *The Crisis of Global Modernity*. About the translator: Wang Fuming, formerly affiliated with the Research Office of Economic History at the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, with research interests focusing on modern Chinese economic history, rural society, and cultural changes.

作者简介杜赞奇（Prasenjit Duara），杜克大学东亚研究教授、芝加哥大学历史系荣休教授，曾任新加坡国立大学莱佛士人文讲席教授兼亚洲研究所所长（2008—2015）、美国亚洲研究学会主席（2019—2020）。早年就学于印度，后求学于美国哈佛大学并获历史学博士学位，师从著名汉学家孔飞力。著有《文化、权力与国家》《从民族国家拯救历史》《全球现代性的危机》等。

译者简介王福明，曾任职于中国社会科学院近代史研究所经济史研究室，主要研究领域为中国近代经济史、乡村社会与文化变迁等。
