Stephen R. Platt (Chinese name: Pei Shifeng)
He holds a Ph.D. in Chinese history from Yale University, and his doctoral dissertation won the Theron Rockwell Field Prize. Currently an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he is the author of Autumn in the Heavenly Kingdom. He majored in English as an undergraduate, after which he spent two years in Hunan as a teacher with the Yale-China Association. His research has been supported by the Fulbright Program, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation. He now lives in Greenfield, Massachusetts with his wife and daughter.

Huang Zhongxian
Graduated from the Department of Diplomacy at National Chengchi University. A full-time translator, he has translated works including Autumn in the Heavenly Kingdom, The Invention of Paris, Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945, Vermeer's Hat, The Great Explorers, After Tamerlane, Genghis Khan, and The Cambridge Illustrated History of the Islamic World.

耶魯大學中國史博士,其博士論文獲頒瑟隆.費爾德獎(Theron Rockwell Field Prize)。目前是美國阿姆赫斯特麻塞諸塞大學的助理教授,著有《太平天國之秋》(Autum in the Heavenly Kindom)一書。他大學時主修英語,因此大學畢業後以雅禮協會老師的身分在湖南待了兩年。他的研究得到富爾布萊特計畫、國家人文基金會、蔣經國基金會支持。目前與妻女住在麻塞諸塞州的格林費爾德。
