The two authors of this book are senior professors in the field of American Sinology. Michael Nylan, a professor in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley, has long been dedicated to the study of early Chinese intellectual history, Chinese art and archaeology, and is one of the most renowned and influential scholars in related fields. Thomas Wilson, a professor in the Department of History at Hamilton College, researches include Chinese history, culture, and religion, Confucian rituals, and sacrifices.
